The Iain Rennie Hospice at Home (IRHH) is calling on people in the Chilterns to help set a new world record for the longest conga in fancy dress at its Goodnight Walk on June 19th. This year's event has a Mardi Gras theme and up to 1,000 people are expected to take part in the eight mile circular route around Amersham and Little Chalfont. The Goodnight Walk starts at midnight from the Amersham Polish Club and IRHH hopes to kick off the event with a conga line that gets everyone in the party spirit! They are also aiming to set a new fundraising record by topping last year's achievement of raising £120,000 in just one night. IRHH provides specialist nursing care across the Chilterns for patients with life-limiting illnesses who wish to be cared for in their own homes.
Helen Mariner, Head of Fundraising at Iain Rennie Hospice at Home said: "The Goodnight Walk is about having fun whilst helping local people at the same time and what better way to get everyone in a party mood than the world's longest conga in fancy dress? We receive amazing support from the local communities in which we work and I'm sure that people will rise to the challenge to help us get into the record books. It promises to be an exciting night with the same camaraderie and fantastic atmosphere that all ages enjoyed last year. By getting involved people can help us provide our nursing services to around 1,000 patients and their families each year."
As the official witness on the night Amersham's Mayor, Martin Phillips will verify the evidence that will be sent to prove a new world record has been set. Mayor Phillips said: "People in the Chilterns do a tremendous amount to help good causes such as IRHH and I hope we can all come together to set a new world record, have fun and raise money to help local people at the same time."
A Goodnight Walk Facebook group has been set up so people can register their support for the world record attempt so make sure you join!
Marshals will accompany walkers on the night and there are water stations and portaloos along the route. Bacon butties and hot drinks will be served as walkers cross the finish line. It costs £15 to enter the Goodnight Walk and all participants receive a T-shirt, refreshments and breakfast.
