The 2011 Goodnight Walk is to be the biggest ‘70’s Party in the Chilterns

The 2011 Goodnight Walk is to be the biggest ‘70’s Party in the Chilterns

On the night of Saturday 18 June 2011 disco fever will come to Amersham as Iain Rennie Hospice at Home (IRHH) holds its fifth annual Goodnight Walk and this year the event will be staged as the biggest ‘70’s party in the Chilterns. Hundreds of walkers will don their flares, hot pants, wigs and whacky shirts to walk through the night to raise money for the IRHH nursing service.

The overnight Walk will take place in Amersham to encourage the walkers not just in their challenge but in their dressing-up, prizes will be awarded on the night for the best costumes and organisers expect a fantastic atmosphere.  Community & Events Manager, Ruth Barber commented:

"We are really excited about the theme for this year’s Goodnight Walk as the ‘70’s is always popular. We don’t want walkers to spend a fortune on their costumes, so we are asking our charity shops to mount special displays of ‘70’s fashions. This will help keep costs down for our walkers and will offer further financial support to IRHH. It’s a real win-win scenario."

Over the past four years the Goodnight Walk has raised an impressive figure of over £300,000 for the charity and this year’s target is £75,000. Every walker is being asked to aim to raise £150 which funds an Iain Rennie nurse for 24 hours.

Although originally designed with women in mind, the IRHH Goodnight Walk is now one of the only events of its kind that openly welcomes men walkers too.  So disco divas can bring along their very own John Travoltas – or hope to meet some along the way!

Previous participants have included former patients who have completed successful cancer treatments, teams walking in memory of friends or family members and a number of ‘hens’ choosing to host their special pre-nuptial celebrations in a novel way raising money for charity.

Applications forms to take part in the biggest ‘70’s party in the Chilterns will be available to download from this website very soon. For further information, please contact Ruth Barber or Kerri Coote on 01442 890222.
