Lyn Logan has chosen to keep it local and enter this year’s Goodnight Walk in Amersham on Saturday 18 June organised by Iain Rennie Hospice at Home (IRHH – part of the newly merged charity Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care). Lyn, who lives in Loudwater, has enjoyed participating in several night walks in the past including the Moonwalk in London, but this year she has once again chosen to support the IRHH home nursing service which offers local patients with life limiting illnesses the chance to spend their last days and weeks at home.
Lyn will be walking with her friend, Carol Poulter, in memory of their friend Deborah who lost her 4 year long battle with cancer in December 2010. Lyn commented:
"Cancer and other life-limiting illnesses touch all of our lives at some point and events like the Goodnight Walk help you to remember people who have been lost and who are currently battling with illness. It is so important to make people aware of the Hospice at Home and the great work that it does – and the Walk can help you get fit into the bargain."
Walking is not part of Lyn’s daily job as an IT administrator for Biffa waste services, but she does enjoy walking her dog three times a day and likes to walk in the Derbyshire countryside when she and her husband manage to get a break away.
Lyn has chosen to walk the longer 10 mile route and knows the challenge that lies ahead of her to walk when her body wants to sleep! She is excited about the ‘70’s theme for this year’s walk which is being staged as the biggest ‘70’s party in the Chilterns but is keeping mum about the details of her outfit which is being designed by Carol’s daughter Avril suffice to say that it will involve flares and large glasses!
"Last year the Mardi Gras theme gave all walkers a real lift and I’m really looking forward to experiencing the ‘70’s party spirit this year. I know I’ll feel tired when I get back home in the middle of the night but it is all for such a good cause that it will definitely be worth it."
Why not join Lyn and Carol and enter the 2011 Goodnight Walk? A 5 mile and a 10 mile route are available both of which start and finish at the Amersham Polish Club in Raans Road. Both walks start at midnight and entry costs £15 which includes a t-shirt, refreshments along the way and a reviving cuppa and bacon butty on the finish line.
